VISIT OF ENGLISH TEAM

The English Northern Union team will meet Queensland and Australian teams at the Exhibition grounds within the next fortnight. These giants of the league game have drawn wonderful crowds, and the gate takings at the matches have far exceeded the estimates that were originally made when the idea of bringing the "cream of footballers" to Australia first originated. The Englishmen will arrive to-morrow night, and will he formally welcomed by the Q.A.R. League. Mr. J. Houghton, the manager of the team, will probably arrive in Brisbane by to-night's mail train, and lie may be accompanied by Mr. Thomas, the Welsh international flve-eighth. On Friday afternoon tho Mayor will tender a welcome to the team.

Background

Special trams to the England vs Queensland rugby league match at the Brisbane Exhibition Ground. England played two matches in Brisbane on 25 and 29 June 1910. The first match on the Saturday drew a crowd of 8,000 people "including a large number of ladies". The second match, being on a cloudy weekday, only saw a crowd of 2,000. England won both matches, 33-9 and 15-4.
