Black and white photograph of Mary Elizabeth Campbell, probably taken around 1919. She is wearing small half-glasses, and a dark dress over white blouse with a ribbon rosette at the throat. She also appears to be wearing a string of pearls.
Biography of Mary Elizabeth Campbell

Mary Elizabeth (May) was the oldest Campbell child to survive infancy.  She never married, but stayed on at Kilburnie and helped her younger spinster sister, Ruby, with day to day jobs, and the care of their ailing mother Elizabeth.  After Elizabeth's passing, May also helped to care for and raise her sister Rachel's orphans (John, Elizabeth, Sheila & Peggy Daley) who had been brought back to Kilburnie in around 1919 from Canada.  Anecdotal remarks indicate that May was unwell, perhaps with a mental disorder, perhaps a physical, and was sent to Rockhampton to Leinster Private Hospital, where she passed away in 1928.
