The Ploughing Matches

The Allora and Spring Creek Ploughing Matches for 1876 were contested at Allora on Wednesday last, upon an area of fifteen acres of suburban land, the property of Mr. C. Gillam, near the Catholic Church, and within the municipality of Allora. The site chosen was nearer than that of former years, in order to be more convenient for the townspeople, who showed their appreciation of the change by turning out well, and in the majority of instances spending the greater part of the day upon the ground; they, however availed themselves of the opportunity of visiting their homes at various times, which prevented so large a muster on the ground at any one time as would have taken place had the point of attraction been further away.
